Due to legal reasons these games can not be screened on TV in the UK. However they are televised across the globe and streamed to the Internet for all of us to watch.

There are several P2P programs out there that allow you to view these channels on your computer. Such players are Sopcast, TVU and TV ants and many more. Personally I find Sopcast more reliable as the connections are more stable and the interface is more user friendly.

Once you are using Firefox, download any one of these players (you may wish to download 2 or 3 of these as 1 player may not have the channel showing the game – however, Sopcast do tend to have more live channels than the others):

So, once you have downloaded Sopcast (or any other player), log in and you will be able to see a list of channels that are currently on air. These channels range from sports channels to Movie channels and come from all across the world.

An awesome website to visit is MyP2P.eu . This website should help answer any problems you come across when trying to watch TV via your P2P Program. If you click on the live sports tab up the top of the page you will see a list of games that are due to be played in the next couple of days.

Find the game you want to watch and click the little tv link on the right hand side.

Now scroll down the page and you will see a list of channels where the game is being played and what software to use (Sopcast, TVants etc). Click the play button and you will get a prompt display, click on launch application and your player will launch, if not already open.

note: Sopcast doesn’t tend to display the chosen channel when you click launch application, so in Sopcast type in the address bar the link that the prompt field displays. eg, sop://broker1.sopcast.com:3912/1234

Wait a couple of minutes for it to download and wa-hay, your now watching the big match.

If watching on your computer monitor doesn’t cut it, you can stream it to your Xbox 360 (and possibly other devices), to enable you to watch on the big screen (I’ll tell you how that can be set up in a follow up post).

useful Tip;

Don’t use Torrent or download programs when watching. P2P depends on Upload and Download speed of all users watching. Shut down all processes that uses your Internet speed. This will allow you to watch the match fast enough. Your upload is needed to get it running fine for other people. So follow these steps and you and other people are able to enjoy it without any problems.

What else is there?

Alternativly to using MYP2P to find the game, check out LiveFooty. This website also lists all the top games and allows you to watch within your web browser (only Internet Explorer). You must ensure that you have the Sopcast or TVants web players downloaded (these should be included when you download the programs, as linked above).

Disadvantages:

Unfortunately its not all hunky dory, the picture quality isn’t always great and at times the channels wont buffer straight away and can take a while to get working, if it works at all. But hey, when it does work, you are watching free football (or other sports) that you aren’t usually able to watch.

So if you are planning on watching a match, give yourself 10-15 minutes to get the player up and running and enough time for the channel to buffer.

Also, as these channels are streamed from across the globe your match may have foreign commentary. Although this is pretty funny, it soon gets on your nerves. If that’s the case just check to see if the commentary is somewhere else online .

College Football Enters the Fantasy World

CBS Sports, apparently feeling bolder after the Supreme Court rejected MLB’s attempt to garner revenues from fantasy baseball providers, has announced that it will offer a college football fantasy football game this season.

Players of video games have always thought it silly that they can play college Football Video games on PlayStation and the like and see # 5 for the West Virginia football team blowing by Big East defenses, but not being permitted to know for sure that this was Heisman candidate Pat White. CBS Sports is changing all that.

The new CBS Sports fantasy college football game will use the actual names and statistics of college athletes for the upcoming 2008 season.

In the past, CBS Sports had offered a college football game, but it never really caught on with fantasy sports players. It’s probably because most college football fans have loyalty to their regional team and while they may know the teams in their conference, it’s difficult to keep up with all 120 Division-1 gridiron squads. Real quick, name the star running back for Marshall who made the Conference-USA all freshman team last year (should be an easy one to remember: Darius Marshall).

In addition, the players change every four years and there’s 11-12 games rather than the NFL’s 16 games plus 4-5 preseason games that nobody cares about. Certainly, it’s much easier to know the players on the 30 NFL teams. You’ve been watching them longer and they were standouts for four years in college. The mere universe of players available to a fantasy college football team is daunting, even if you have the ESPN GamePlan package.

But, perhaps the most important reason why fantasy college football never caught on in the past was because of the lame way that the players were presented. Instead of saying that it was Missouri’s star QB Chase Daniel, the games were forced to say Missouri quarterback # 10.

The Supreme Court’s decision to not hear Major League Baseball’s case on June 2 involving fantasy baseball led to this change by CBS Sports. Essentially, the Supreme Court said that a sports league or entity does not own the rights to statistics and names of players are part of the public domain.

Now, you’d think the NCAA would have to get involved, wouldn’t you? I mean, they stuck their noses into banning the ability for college prospects to get text messages from coaches. Surprisingly, NCAA spokesman Bob Williams did remind CBS Sports that it prohibits the use of player likenesses in the game, but that for now the NCAA does not intend to stand in the way of the fantasy college football game.

That’s great news from the NCAA, but I’m not sure we’ve heard the last from them on this issue. In the mean time, get your preseason college football guide books and consider picking up West Virginia running back Noel Devine as well as Pat White.

In their most recent game, the Eagles gave themselves little chance to snap their lengthy losing streak and stun host Toledo. Eastern Michigan buried itself with four turnovers and several penalties that came at crucial junctures of the game.

What resulted was a 47-21 loss that exhibited many of the same characteristics as the string of defeats the Eagles have endured this season. Eastern Michigan plunged into a 16-0 hole early in the game, and never recovered. The Eagles fall to 0-11 overall and 0-7 in the league.

The Zips followed a familiar pattern against Bowling Green. Akron jumped out to a 10-9 halftime lead before Bowling Green stormed back with 27 second-half points to post a 36-20 victory.

The Zips, 2-9 and 1-6 in the MAC East Division, followed their game plan in the first half. Akron used a two tight-end set to run the ball and control the clock, keeping the ball away from Bowling Green quarterback Tyler Sheehan and wide receiver Freddie Barnes. Akron had 151 yards rushing in the first half and led 10-7 midway through the second quarter after Patrick Nicely found Jeremy Bruce for a 10-yard touchdown.

In the first half, Sheehan failed to throw a touchdown and Barnes, the nation’s leading receiver, was held to four catches for 69 yards.

You can get great defensive stats when you have a great ball control offense.

The most important thing for the great defensive stat is that the offense has to stay healthy. When a key offensive player gets hurt most people falsely think that the game is going to be lower scoring. Most teams have to compensate for this loss and have to open it more. The same is true on defense. If a key defensive middle linebacker gets hurt, it often means the other team will run more. It could mean that the other team will have more success on offense with ball control, have fewer possessions and score fewer points.
